"Having clung to my old CRT for over 10 years, the release of Star Wars on bluray has finally made me buy a new TV, so I bought one of these (40") a month ago and have been very impressed.
Originally i wasn't expecting to watch anything in 3D but reviews i'd read and also seeing working in a couple of high street stores showed the 2D picture to be far better than the competitor models around it.
I also wanted a TV that was all screen and no large surround which was a big plus point.
Once it was home, this size screen is perfect for our lounge (16' x 30' room). Anything bigger would have overpowered the room, so think carefully before just getting the biggest tv you can find.
Inputs are amongst the best on TVs i looked at, multiple HDMI, usb, optical, scart, etc so have hooked in the Humax PVR, Wii, Sky, Laptop, 2 memory sticks and still have spares.

Quality when watching the built in freeview is excellent, stepping up to the HD Sky box really shows the sharpness on the HD channels.
Internet TV was easy to connect to the wireless, one update to the tv has been automatically found and installed so far, but nothing i can notice has changed.
Playing a bluray through the TV was excellent and although i've only watched the 3D version of Drive Angry and a bit of Mega Mind so far, the effect was amazing.
2D > 3D effect on normal TV works better on some programs than others (just try bargain hunt!) and a Queen music DVD and it does a good job of giving the impression of depth. The music one in particular worked well, as it felt like you actually had space between Brian May at the front of the stage and Roger Taylor on drums.

I've tried watching with both lights on and off and haven't noticed the bleed others have mentioned.
USB playback is simple already having tried WMV, AVI and Divx, supposedly more but i haven't needed to play any other formats yet. I had some MPEG files which didn't play while others did, but used winavi to covnert then were ok. As there are quite a few MPG formats, then it might only be certain ones with playback issues.
Also jpgs can be viewed from a memory stick. My camera is only 3mp but they look great and fill the screen. Slideshow will run with a choice of transistions, or random changes for each slide.
Sound, as you would expect from a wafer thin tv is a little tinny, but still loud, so fine for normal viewing. I've hooked into an Onkyo amp and 2 speaker system which is perfect for watching movies.
Overall, i would highly recommend this TV and haven't come across any reason to be disappointed yet. From a spec sheet i was shown in store, the 8000 and 7000 models only really differ by having a transparent surround on this model and silver on the 8000, so a matter of preference really.
Price is above alternative makes, but the quality soon makes up for that and there's some great bundles to be had. I got mine from a high street specialist with free Samsung BluRay player and Samsung Touch Remote with mine and was still over £400 cheaper than some other high street stores."

Disappointing internet access

No, I would not recommend this to a friend.
"As a TV it will take a lot of beating, but does not live upto Samaungs Full Internet claims. Samsung advised John Lewis technical dept that the web browser will not stream catch up tv stations such as 4od & itv player ect. these may only become available in the future via an app but not now. This makes the smart hub far less useful than first appears. Incidentally the choice of available apps is really limited. Anyway had all this been explained initially I most certainly would not have purchased this product. Shame it could have been so good."
